Water Safety - 28/5/26 |
||
|
Good Morning all, hope i find you well. I'm sure you watch the news as much as we do, in relation to the recent tragic passing of a 10th person in open water during the recent heatwave. I urge you, please remain alert and aware when visiting beauty spots, especially those which are primarily water based. On its day, water is an absolute monster. Even in such beautiful weather, whilst appearing calm and idyllic, it could potentially contain harm and danger. Whilst it may be tempting to go for a dip to cool off, please consider the health and safety of you and yours. Public space areas and indoor pools will generally have safety equipment, lifeguards and pool attendants present. But places such as waterfalls, reservoirs, marinas and lakes might not. It really is not worth risking your life and wellbeing just to cool off.
If you are indeed out and about and see someone in distress or danger, please ring 999. Explain where you and what you can see and the operator will allocate the necessary resources to the scene. Please do not put yourself in danger by entering the water to assist, leave it to us, the emergency services. If there are life rings, flotation devices or ropes nearby, throw them as near as possible to the casualty and await the emergency services.
( Incidentally, as well as Police, Fire and Ambulance. The 999 system can also be used for the Coastguard, RNLI & Mountain Rescue )
People do not realise how dangerous the water can be. Please, I urge you, stay safe. Keep you and yours close. If your children are going out to play, please raise water safety to them as a matter of urgency.
If you wish to speak to me about this further, please contact me.
Thank you, take care.
